Travel health insurance is a type of insurance that covers medical expenses in case of sudden illness and accidents while you are abroad. It is one of the application requirements for Schengen applications.
Why is it requested?
The aim is to make sure emergency health costs that may arise during your trip can be covered. For this reason, insurance is treated not as a formal part of the application but as one of its conditions.
What should you check in the policy?
- Area of validity. The policy is expected to cover the whole Schengen area; policies valid for only one country may not be sufficient.
- Period of validity. The insurance must cover the whole planned trip. It must match the entry and exit dates you state in your application.
- Scope of cover. It is expected to cover emergency medical treatment and, where necessary, the cost of returning to your country.
- Applicant’s name. The name, surname and passport details on the policy must be exactly the same as in your application.

When should you buy it?
Insurance is usually bought while preparing the application file, once the travel dates are clear. If the dates change, the policy must also be updated; otherwise a date mismatch appears in the file.
Is it mandatory for every country?
No. Travel health insurance is one of the application requirements for Schengen applications. There is no such requirement for UK, US and Canada applications; however, it is still recommended for travel safety.
Does Velora Vize sell insurance?
No. Velora Vize does not provide insurance brokerage services. While preparing your application file, we review together at the file review stage whether your policy matches your application details.
